  Behind the Dress: Fern Gown

As I’ve learned more and more about the symbolic meanings that have been associated with different flowers, I’ve used floral imagery more consciously in my work. In this collection, I’ve taken inspiration from floral motifs and the timeless spring charm of the garden party. With Fern, that flower symbolism becomes very artful indeed.

The peplum sits low, giving an effect that’s almost like a drop-waist to the skirt, so it emphasizes that beautiful statuesque posture in the bride. The structured gazaar tiers of the bodice set off her figure in a very classic way, while the asymmetry of the crumbcatcher lends an artful edge.

Then, the dramatic gorgeousness of Fern arises from the tension with the tissue organza of the skirt, done with an architectural “ladder” technique, where the shapes are always moving and changing, always in motion. As the bride advances, the layers of the skirt undulate and ripple with light and shadow.
For me, the graceful layering of Fern evokes the stem and petals of a flower, but with a very modern vocabulary. The bride who wears Fern has a more sophisticated eye and is looking for something beyond the traditional wedding aesthetic.

Tips For The Bride Venturing Out to Shop For Her Gown, Courtesy of Vera Wang!

How to get started...

We suggest a bride start looking roughly 8-10 months in advance. So allow for plenty of time to purchase your dress.

Most salons will require an advance appointment so a bridal consultant can effectively work with you. Most appointments last between 45-90 minutes.

Make sure you have the venue solidified. If not, then have an idea of the setting. This will be a big influence on your dress style.

Be aware of your budget and communicate this to your consultant. A good consultant is happy to find selections in your price range.

Do not limit yourself to certain bridal gown cuts or fabrications. Even if the bride thinks she will not like it, we suggest trying it!

Carefully consider the number of important people you bring with you to your appointment. Too many opinions tend to confuse the bride. We suggest up to three accompany the bride.

Limit yourself from visiting too many bridal salons. This overwhelms brides more often than helping them in the long run.

We couldn't agree more with these tips! Gown shopping should be a positive and memorable experience, and these tips will help you on your way! xx

Our Second Appearance on A-Morning!

For all who may have missed it, here we are on A-morning pre-Enagage chatting about the event and showing off some very glam gowns! xx

The White Dress at Engage!

We had a great time at Engage on Wednesday evening, despite all of the snow we received earlier in the day!! Because the event was designed for bride's looking to mingle casually with industry experts, we brought two of our favorite glamazon gowns which tied in perfectly with the chic feel of the evening!

Thanks to all of the bride's who weathered the storm to come out and share a glass of bubbly and some delicious canapes with us and all of the other fabulous vendors who participated! It was great to see some familiar faces and new bride's as well, we look forward to seeing you in the boutique in the future!

Here's some photo's of the evening if you weren't able to make it out! Looking forward to participating in this new and unique show next year!
